The Grizzlies didn’t play much D in this game as the Jazz shot 50.7% from the floor last night.  Marc Gasol (21 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 blocked shots) and Tony Allen (21 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal) led the way for the Grizzlies last night.  Rudy Gay also had a solid game with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 asssist and 1 steal.  Mike Conley only shot 5 of 18 from the floor in this game, but he still finished up with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.  The Grizzlies are now 3-4 on the season.

Marc Gasol is stepping up for the Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies need 26-year old center Marc Gasol to step up due to the injury to Zach Randolph, and he has been doing exactly that.  Gasol has played in 6 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 34.8 minutes, 12.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocked shots per game.  He is shooting 54.9% from the floor with most of his shots coming in close to the basket.  They are going to need Gasol to keep providing a lot of muscle in the paint until Zach Randolph returns to action and he’s more than capable of doing exactly that.

The Grizzlies outscored the Timberwolves 33-27 in the 4th quarter last night and it was the big reason for the win in this game.  Tony Allen (20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot) and Rudy Gay (19 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot) led the way for the Grizzlies last night.  O.J. Mayo (14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal) and Mike Conley (12 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals) also pitched in for the Grizzlies in this game.  The Grizzlies are now 3-3 on the year.

The Memphis Grizzlies acquire Marreese Speights from the 76ers

The Grizzlies have acquired 24-year old power forward Marreese Speights from the 76ers in a three-team deal also involving the Hornets.  The Grizzlies have sent 20-year old shooting guard Xavier Henry to the Hornets and a 2nd round pick in 2012 to the 76ers as part of this deal.  The 76ers will also get a 2nd round pick in 2013 from the Hornets.  Speights played in 64 games (1 start) for the Sixers last year and he averaged 11.5 minutes, 5.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  He has now played in 205 games (4 starts) in his first three years in the NBA and he is averaging 14.7 minutes, 7.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  Speights will definitely help up front due to the injury to Zach Randolph.  Xavier Henry played in 38 games (16 starts) for the Grizzlies as a rookie last year and he was averaging 13.9 minutes, 4.3 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.

The Grizzlies will be without 30-year old, starting power forward Zach Randolph for the next 6-8 weeks due to a torn ligament in his knee.  Randolph has played in 4 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies so far this year and he is averaging 28.3 minutes, 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.3 steals per game.  He has now played in 160 games (159 starts) in his first three years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 36.8 minutes, 20.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  Randolph is going to be very hard to replace for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies shot 54.9% from the floor last night as the offense was outstanding.  Rudy Gay (23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot) and Sam Young (20 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals) led the way for the Grizzlies in this game.  O.J. Mayo (16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot) and Marc Gasol (14 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals) also had outstanding games last night for the Grizzlies.  Mike Conley returned to action with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocked shots in 23 minutes off the bench.  Tony Allen pitched in with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals in this game.  The Grizzlies are now 2-3 on the year.

The Grizzlies only shot 31% from the floor last night and they were outrebounded 55-40 as they decided not to show up at all in Chicago.  Sam Young (10 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal in 18 minutes) and Josh Davis (10 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist in 24 minutes on the floor) led the way for the Grizzlies in this game.  Marc Gasol pitched in with 8 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots also pitched in for the Grizzlies in this game.  The Grizzlies are now 1-3 on the year.

The Grizzlies have re-signed 26-year old center Hamed Haddadi to a 1-year deal.  Haddadi played in 31 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies last year and he averaged 5.4 minutes, 2.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  He has now played in 86 games (0 starts) in his first three years with the Grizzlies and he is averaging 6.1 minutes, 2.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  The Grizzlies were hurting with depth up front, so it was smart to bring Haddadi back for the 2011-12 season.

The Grizzlies shot 56.3% from the floor and they outrebounded the Rockets 42-33 which helps explain the scoreboard last night.  Zach Randolph (23 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals) and Marc Gasol (20 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals and 5 blocked shots led the way for the Grizzlies in this game.  Jeremy Pargo (14 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists in 22 minutes on the floor) and Quincy Pondexter (13 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal) also had solid games for the Grizzlies.  Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo pitched in with 10 points apiece in this game.  The Grizzlies are now 1-2 on the year.

The Grizzlies have waived 35-year old power forward Brian Skinner.  Skinner played in 1 game for the Grizzlies this year working 4 minutes and not recording any other stats.  Skinner has now played in 608 games (197 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 17.9 minutes, 4.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  This isn’t much of a loss for the Grizzlies as they have pretty solid depth up front.
