The Memphis Grizzlies shut a couple players down for the year

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Friday 2 April 2010 at 1:48 pm

The Grizzlies have shut down starting center Marc Gasol and backup SG/SF Ronnie Brewer for the season due to injuries. Gasol has a partially torn neck muscle while Brewer has a hamstring injury. Gasol played in 69 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies this year and he averaged 35.8 minutes, 14.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 blocked shots per game. He will be impossible for the Grizzlies to replace the last couple of weeks. Brewer only played in 5 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies after coming over in a trade with the Jazz. In those games, Brewer averaged 16.0 minutes, 2.0 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. The Grizzlies better re-sign Brewer because they gave up a first round pick for him.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose Ronnie Brewer for a while

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Monday 22 February 2010 at 8:20 am

Ronnie Brewer didn’t last too long for the Grizzlies before getting hurt. He partially tore his right hamstring in his first game with the Grizzlies and he will be out indefinitely. This is a bad break for the Grizzlies who traded a future first round pick for Brewer knowing that he would inject good talent into the bench which is young. Brewer played 12 minutes in his first game with the Grizzlies and he scored 2 points, grabbed 1 rebound and he stole the ball twice. This is a big loss for the Grizzlies.

The Memphis Grizzlies acquire Ronnie Brewer from the Jazz

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Thursday 18 February 2010 at 6:26 pm

The Grizzlies have acquired 24-year old SG/SF Ronnie Brewer from the Jazz for a protected first round pick in the 2011 draft. Brewer played in 53 games (all starts) for the Jazz this season and he was averaging 31.4 minutes, 9.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He has now played in 266 games (223 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 26.4 minutes, 10.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. This was a great trade for the Grizzlies as Brewer will likely serve as the sixth man the rest of the year.

The Memphis Grizzlies are on the hunt for bench help

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Sunday 14 February 2010 at 1:16 pm

The Grizzlies are on the hunt for bench help at the trade deadline. They have a great starting five but the bench is really young and that could hurt them as they are trying to make the playoffs. The Grizzlies are armed with some nice draft picks this June and that is what they will likely bring to the table in trade talks. They should be looking for teams that are willing to dump talented players with the idea of getting younger.

Darrell Arthur will be back in action tonight for the Memphis Grizzlies

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Tuesday 9 February 2010 at 4:19 pm

2nd year forward Darrell Arthur will be making his season debut tonight for the Grizzlies against the Hawks. He has missed the whole season until now due to a torn pectoral muscle. He played in 76 games (73 starts) for the Grizzlies as a rookie last season and he averaged 19.3 minutes, 5.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. The Grizzlies need help off the bench so they are glad that Arthur is back.

Memphis Grizzlies 97, Minnesota Timberwolves 95

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General,NBA Blogs by Andrew on Thursday 3 December 2009 at 12:27 pm

The Memphis Grizzlies (7-12) escaped with a 2-point victory last night against the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-16), in a game where it looked like neither team wanted the win.  Coming down the stretch both teams struggled at the line.  O.J. Mayo had a chance to seal the win for the Grizzlies, but he missed a free throw with 10 seconds left to keep the Timberwolves alive.  Timberwolves’ guard Ramon Sessions then drove to the hole and was fouled with 1 second left.  Thankfully for the Grizzlies sake, Sessions choked and the Grizz were able to escape with the win.  Rudy Gay was the leader for the Grizzlies, with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.  Ryan Gomes led the Timberwolves with 20 points.

Memphis Grizzlies 93, Utah Jazz 120

The Memphis Grizzlies (6-12) did not bring a good effort on defense last night and were crushed by the Utah Jazz (10-7) because of it.  They gave up at least 30 points in each of the first three quarters and found themselves down 25 points before the 4th quarter even started.  O.J. Mayo led the Grizzlies on offense with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist.  Marcus Williams had a very good game off the bench with 17 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals in 24 minutes.  Jamal Tinsley played terrible, shooting 3-13 from the field for 8 points, 7 assists, and 5 fouls.  The Grizzlies were never really in this game as the Jazz had six players in double figures, with Ronnie Brewer leading the way with 25 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 steals.

Memphis Grizzlies 116, Sacramento Kings 105

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General,NBA Blogs by Andrew on Tuesday 24 November 2009 at 3:43 am

The Memphis Grizzlies (5-9) shot lights out Monday night against the Sacramento Kings (5-8) and built a 17 point lead going into the 4th quarter.  The Grizzlies shot 54% from the field and every starter scored in double-figures.  Rudy Gay had a very good game for the Grizzlies, dropping in 24 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Marc Gasol filled up the stat sheet and went 8-10 from the field for 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals.  Although the Kings shot nearly 50% from the field, the Grizzlies forced 21 turnovers and played pretty solid defense.  Tyreke Evans led the way for the Kings with 28 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Memphis Grizzlies sign Jamaal Tinsley

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Sunday 15 November 2009 at 10:36 pm

The Grizzlies have signed 31-year old point guard Jamaal Tinsley. Tinsley last played in the NBA during the 2007-08 season for the Pacers. He missed last season because the Pacers just didn’t want him around which is pretty odd for a team to do. Tinsley has now played in 398 games (365 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 30.2 minutes, 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Tinsley was likely added to push Michael Conley for his starting job. Conley has played in 10 games (all starts) for the Grizzlies this season and he is averaging 30.2 minutes, 8.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.

The Memphis Grizzlies lose rookie center Hasheem Thabeet

Blogged under Big Grizzlies News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General,Injuries,The Draft Report by alleyoop on Wednesday 11 November 2009 at 12:00 pm

The Grizzlies will be without rookie center Hasheem Thabeet indefinately as he fractured his lower jaw when he collided with teammate Zach Randolph. Thabeet has played in 7 games (0 starts) so far this season for the Grizzlies and he is averaging 6.0 minutes, 0.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Hamed Haddadi will likely see a bump in playing time until Thabeet is ready to return to action. Haddadi has played in 4 games (0 starts) so far this season and he is averaging 4.3 minutes, 1.0 point, 1.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.
